John Easterling was also drawn to the land of mystery and adventure, seeking answers and treasures.

Throughout his numerous trips to the Amazon searching for treasure, Amazon John was very fortunate, and made many valuable discoveries, including a small fortune in gemstones and ancient artifacts. For several years he made a living from the sales of these precious stones and treasures. But then he discovered the most valuable treasure of all: this is the story of Amazon John Easterling, and how it can change your life forever as well.

It all began in the third grade at Merry Oaks Elementary School when the latest issue of the Weekly Reader arrived. Each week there was a story about a young kid his age living in some exotic part of the globe. This particular issue featured Sangrog and his llamas, who lived a great adventure every day, high up in the snowcapped Andes Mountains. The story told of lost cities of untold wealth and advanced civilizations vanished from the face of the earth. The story fascinated young John Easterling, and his mind raced with the possibilities. In his heart he knew he had found his passion and destiny...in South America.

After graduating from the University of North Carolina with a degree in environmental science in 1976, John sold his car and then bought a ticket to Ecuador in search of treasure. It's been over three decades since John began his exploration, and he has filled three passports and logged over 180 trips to South America as of May 2009. Amazon John crisscrossed the Andes Mountains for years searching for lost cities and Pre-Colombian civilizations.

Amazon John Easterling’s Dream to Find Treasure Kept Him Going

After surviving a near-death experience from hepatitis and Rocky Mountain spotted fever roughly 10 years previous to his explorations, John struggled with chronic fatigue, decreased mental acuity and a severely compromised liver. Yet, despite his poor health, he continued trekking into the jungle. John knew that there were hidden secrets and treasures hidden somewhere in Amazonia, some that would dramatically alter human existence. Invariably, while searching for his treasures, he found himself pursuing his natural trade with the native Indians in tribal artifacts. Little did he know what would lead him to the real treasure of South America, an experience that changed his life forever.

The Life Changing Treasure

In 1982, John was exploring upriver on the Rio Ucayali, the main tributary of the Amazon. He knew he was in rough shape, chilling and sweating with fever in the searing afternoon heat. Weak and exhausted, he turned his motorized dug-out to the river bank and stumbled into a Shipibo village. Once he laid down, he couldn't get up. Fortunately, the Shipibo natives were sympathetic and took care of him. Their herbalist began feeding me a special mixture of herbs. After a few days with the Shipibo Indians on the headwaters of the Amazon, he started getting stronger. Drinking the special blend of Uña de Gato and Chanca Piedra herbal teas restored his health not only back to where it was before the illness, but to an entirely new level of life experience: John felt better than he had in his entire life.

Amazon John Easterling & Olivia Newton-John

Another one of Amazon John’s treasures is his wife, Olivia Newton-John Easterling. Amazon John met Olivia roughly 15 years ago through a mutual acquaintance in Los Angeles, and they became good friends with many things in common, such as caring about the environment, passion for animals, and other similar interests along those lines, but at the time, it was clear they were on two completely different paths in their lives.

Over a decade later there came a time in both of their lives where things just kind of opened up. In 2007, John invited Olivia to join him on a trip to the Amazon with him, and so she did; along with Jim and Nancy Chuda, the wonderful people who introduced them many years previous. John described the experience as “magical—totally surprising and shocking and magical to really understand who she is. She’s the most extraordinary treasure that I’ve ever found.” John and Olivia fell in love and were married the following year, in June 2008. Olivia shares in Amazon John’s passion for the Rainforest, and they are clearly a match made in heaven.

Amazon John enjoys visiting the Amazon Rainforest as often as his busy schedule allows, and maintains a very strong and ongoing relationship with the Amazonian natives. His efforts to preserve the Rainforest were also recognized by the Cousteau Society, who featured John his company in its PBS documentary Cousteau’s Ocean Adventures: ‘Return to the Amazon.’ Amazon John and Amazon Herb Company were recognized as “the strongest testament that keeping the Rainforest alive and productive is more economically profitable than cutting it down.”
